There are still seats available on the bus!

AdInk has decided to subsidize a bus to KC Ad Club's Career Day. This means that even though the shuttle is full, they will pay for any extra seats not filled on a larger bus. This is to ensure that everyone who wants to go to this event can go!
See this page for information about how to get a seat on the bus.

How to Attend:
1) Register with and pay the KC Ad Club (AAFKC) (this is not AdInk)
2) Get there (see bus info).

The Kansas City Ad Club (called AAF-KC) is hosting its annual Career Day on Monday, Nov. 2, at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City [3700 Broadway -- see map].

The event begins at 9 a.m. with a general job search session, then attendees break out for panel presentations (you will fax in your panel preferences after you register). All attendees will attend five different sessions, and will hear a luncheon keynote speaker. The sessions will conclude around 3:45 pm.

Students with creative portfolios are invited to stay for an optional portfolio review and career counseling with professionals, held from 3:45-5:00. (If you choose the portfolio review or career counseling option, you have to register for it on the registration form, and if you take the AdInk bus to this event, you'll have to schedule your review to begin at 3:40, because the bus will leave at about 4:15.)

How to Register

You must register with the KC Ad Club to attend this event! (This is not AdInk.)

There are two ways to register, but either way, you must fax information to the Ad Club. You may pay for registration using the form on this page (look for the box at the bottom of the page that says "Register"), and a credit card -- but, if you use this online form, you still must fax your session preferences to the KC Ad Club (fax: 816-822-1840). This is the session preference form (which is actually just the printed registration form):

CDay 09 Reg Form

Another way to register is simply to fill out the registration form (available in Marla's office, 237 Wells Hall), and fax it to the KC Ad Club (fax: 816-822-1840). The registration form includes session preferences, and you can either print your credit card information, or send a check through the mail to the KC Ad Club. All of this is explained on the form.

Registration fees: Advance student registration is $30 before Oct. 19 and $35 after Oct. 19. There will be no pre-registration after noon on Oct. 30. Day-of-event walk-up registration is $40. You are not guaranteed getting into the sessions you want if you do not pre-register. See above to learn how to register. No refunds for cancellations will be issued after Oct. 26.

The phone number for the KC Ad Club is 816-822-0300.

Portfolio Review & Career Counseling Info

Portfolio Review & Career Coaching
The KC Ad Club is offering a Portfolio Review and Career Counseling after the sessions, from 3:45-5:00 p.m.

Portfolio reviews are for creative portfolios only. This means art-focused for designers. This can be digital or print, but if it's digital, bring your own computer, and don't rely on electricity or internet connections.

The Career Coaching session is intended for those who are beginning to look for a job or internship. You must have a resume together, and you should be in a position to get some assistance on some specific jobs/careers you are considering. (This is also a great opportunity for those who already have graduated and are looking for a job in Kansas City!)

If you request a portfolio review or career coaching, and are taking the bus, please request an early session, and try to conclude the review as soon as possible so that the bus can depart by 4:15.

What do I wear? (And other details...)

Important Career Day details, as suggested from the KC Ad Club:
- Dress is business attire.
- The Portfolio Review session is optional and conducted at the end of the day. If interested, students should bring their portfolios with them, though they may choose to leave them in their vehicles so they do not have to carry them around all day.
- A light breakfast and lunch will be served.
- This is not a job fair so it is not necessary that you have resumes on hand. However, you may have opportunities to visit with professionals so should be prepared and respectful of their time.
-- Many people do bring resumes and tactfully leave them with professionals, ensuring that professionals know there is no obligation to interview.
